Ballina, NSW

Sea-level sand and plateau basalt are separate Ballina jobs

Southbound on the Pacific Highway, Ballina is an easy arrival and a split decision once you leave the bitumen. At river level sit the mouth, the sand and a water table closer than people expect. Fifteen minutes uphill, Alstonville and Wollongbar are red basalt and macadamia rows. Name that ground first.

River sand or basalt

The length and grade are confirmed before a Ballina truck is booked, and photos of that unit go out before it leaves. River-mouth sand and plateau basalt belong in the same note, because they do not unload the same way.

If you want the doors open before delivery, ask for the photos of that unit: floor, roof, seals and plate. Delivery is quoted to the Ballina or Lennox Head address.

Plateau and river mouths

Ballina and Lennox Head share 2478. Wardell, Wollongbar and Alstonville are 2477. Evans Head, down the coast, is 2473. East Ballina, Skennars Head and Broadwater belong in the same note. The plateau and the river mouth are both on this run, and they do not unload the same way.

Sand below, basalt above

An open side lets a tilt-tray take a ten-foot or twenty-foot. Forty-foot work, beach blocks and any over-fence lift need a crane. East Ballina around Shaws Bay, and cramped Lennox Head frontages, were cut small, with cars both sides and gates that only look useful. Beach suburbs are dune sand, and near North Creek a hole meets water. Pacific wind marks steel left in grass sooner than a unit among the macadamias. Alstonville and Wollongbar are red krasnozem, slick on orchard tracks after rain. A forty-foot waits until the canopy and the turn at the top are agreed.

Nets, nuts and estates

Trawler nets and outboard spares on the Richmond. Beach kit at Lennox Head and East Ballina. Macadamia harvest gear on the plateau. Cane machinery toward Wardell and Broadwater. Site stores at Cumbalum and Skennars Head. A dry corner for small food makers while a cottage is lifted.

Which ground should the enquiry name first, river or plateau?

The surface the truck will stand on. East Ballina and Shaws Bay are sand. Alstonville and Wollongbar grease on orchard tracks after rain. The highway does not say which.

When is a crane the right call on a beach suburb?

When the side passage will not take a tray. Cramped Lennox Head frontages, ornamental gates and Norfolk pines are the usual mix. A long box there is a lift.

Will salt air change how the steel wears?

Pacific wind does that. Grass at the base or litter on the roof shows sooner than the same unit inland on the plateau. Keep the roof clear.

Can a forty-foot go up among the macadamia rows?

Only after the approach is agreed. Low canopy and crowned gravel make it a track question first. The ordinary climb is a twenty-foot, with a real turn at the top.

Room for more.Less mucking around.
