Geraldton, WA
The forecast picks the hour, and the highway only picks the day
Wind decides more of these deliveries than the map. The summer southerly arrives hard most afternoons and will not tolerate a box on a hook. Lifts go early, and move when the forecast is ugly. The steel still comes from the Fremantle partner depot, about four and a half hours up the Brand Highway.
Brand Highway morning slots
That Fremantle holding is the release. The Brand Highway then takes a long morning before the truck is even in town, which is another reason not to leave a crane until the breeze is up. A Mid West buyer normally inspects from photos rather than a round trip to the depot.
Coast and wheat codes
Dongara 6525 is the southern fishing and farming stop. Northampton 6535 and Kalbarri 6536 run north. Mullewa 6630 is inland cropping. Chapman Valley is the farming country between, with no separate code on this list, so name the locality. A harbour job and a Mullewa shed are different approaches.
Wind over shallow limestone
From October through March the sea breeze is often strong by early afternoon. A tilt-tray with a 10ft or 20ft can still proceed. A crane or side loader, which is how a 40ft travels, should not. A box swinging over people in that wind is a reason to move the day. Under the town, sand sits on coastal limestone. Shallow caprock takes four pads. Deep dune sand at Tarcoola Beach, Drummond Cove and Sunset Beach settles through the first winter unless the corners are set properly. Narngulu, Webberton and Wonthella have hardstand. The older west end, together with Beachlands and Bluff Point, pinches a truck between narrow verges and limestone walls. On the Moresby Range the drives leave the bitumen at a steep pitch, and a tilt bed bottoms out before the box is clear. Pictures of the kerb, the climb and the pad, plus which way the block faces the weather, settle the hour.
Pots, paddocks, lay-down
Rock lobster boats at the Fishing Boat Harbour, Port Denison and Kalbarri need room for pots and rope. Chapman Valley, Mullewa, Mingenew and Northampton keep fertiliser and machinery dry. Narngulu and Oakajee take lay-down for mineral sands and iron ore work. Wandina, Glenfield and a tight Tarcoola Beach garage are the household jobs.
Notes on the southerly and on sand over limestone.
Will a southerly cancel the whole delivery?
It stops a crane lift, not always a tilt-tray. From October through March the hook work is a morning job, or it moves a day.
Does dune sand at Sunset Beach need a different setup?
Yes. Shallow limestone can finish on four pads. Deep dune sand settles unevenly unless the corners are packed. Name the beach suburb.
Can a Moresby Range driveway take a tilt-tray?
Not where the bed would bottom on the pitch. Those drives leave the bitumen hard. A crane from the firmer section is the usual answer.
Is Narngulu treated like a West End street?
No. Industrial ground there has room and hardstand. Beachlands and the west end have walls and narrow verges. The address picks the truck.

Room for more.Less mucking around.
