Shepparton, VIC
Flat country still has something to cross
Shepparton orders leave Melbourne port terminals. Orders are filled from Melbourne port terminals and travel the Goulburn Valley Highway. Inspection is by photograph. The valley looks simple because it is level. Level ground here still puts water between the truck and the pad: an irrigation channel, a drain, or a crossing built for a tractor.
Valley orders from Melbourne
This valley is fed from Melbourne port terminals. Photos of the Shepparton unit go out before dispatch, and delivery is quoted to the address. Formed ground or hardstand can take a shorter unit off a tilt-tray. Netting, a channel bank, a tree row, or a long unit, means bringing a crane. If the approach crosses water, say so before a truck is dispatched.
Irrigation towns around
Mooroopna is 3629, across the river from the city. Tatura is 3616, among the dairying and the orchards. Kyabram is 3620, further west. Numurkah is 3636, to the north. Benalla is 3672, back up the highway. Ardmona, Kialla and Congupna sit inside this run when the mailbox is there.
Crossings before the pad
Much of this district is reached over a private culvert or a farm bridge built for a tractor. A spray rig is not proof a rigid will cross. Send a side photograph of any channel on the route. If it looks doubtful, the crane places from firm ground nearby. A recently watered bay can be soft in high summer. Wet clay here turns slick, so the truck slides. Orchard netting sits where a raised tilt bed needs to travel.
Orchards and cold stores
Ardmona, Merrigum and Invergordon need room for bins and irrigation parts. Tatura and Numurkah want feed and dairy hardware. Mooroopna and Kialla serve the food plants when the shed is full. Blocks rebuilt after the 2022 inundation still need site stores.
Notes on wet ground and on what a photograph of a unit can show.
Can the truck use a channel crossing?
Only if it will take a loaded rigid, which a tractor does not prove. Send a side photograph. If it looks doubtful, the container is lifted from firm ground.
Why is a watered bay soft in high summer?
Because irrigation is wetting it. A bay watered in recent days will not carry a truck. The clay turns slick, so the vehicle slides.
Will orchard netting stop a tilt-tray?
It can. Netting and trellis sit where a raised bed must travel. The headland is usually the stand, with a crane if the container must go deeper.
What should be sent before dispatch?
The orchard name, whether a channel is on the way in, and a note on netting or low limbs. Knowing that early avoids a stop at the gate.
