The access problem in this district

The industrial half of Logan is some of the easiest work we do and there is no point pretending otherwise. The estates at Crestmead, Berrinba, Heathwood, Underwood, Slacks Creek and Meadowbrook were laid out for articulated vehicles, with broad entries and hardstand throughout. A container goes in there on a phone call and a gate code. The residential half is where the planning lives. Yarrabilba, Logan Reserve, Park Ridge, Flagstone and Greenbank repeat an identical set of problems street after street: a narrow carriageway with cars along both kerbs, one single position a rigid truck can work from which happens to be your frontage, comms and stormwater lids set into the crossing that will break under a loaded axle, and a turning head at the end of the cul-de-sac drawn around a garbage truck rather than something with six metres of container past the rear wheels. The blocks are cut and fill and eighteen months old, so the ground is still consolidating under thin turf. The older suburbs bring the opposite set. Woodridge, Kingston, Logan Central, Springwood, Daisy Hill and Shailer Park have short steep driveways that pitch away hard at the kerb, so a tilt bed grounds out before the container is clear, plus fifty years of gum and jacaranda over the road and side gates from an era of narrower mowers. A lot of those are lifts. Down on the river country at Eagleby, Bethania, Waterford and Loganholme the Logan and Albert flats are low, silty and slow to dry, and ground that looks firm on top can be soft two hundred millimetres down.
