Shipping containers Tara, Weranga and Kumbarilla

Having room for the box is the easy part. Getting a loaded truck to that room deserves its own conversation. Tara, Weranga and Kumbarilla are rural approaches west of Dalby, and the public road is often the simple half of the trip. After the bitumen stops, the questions are a private grid, a gate, a soft patch and a place to turn. Stock is confirmed from Cornubia before anything is promised.

What sets the timing
The size and grade on hand at Cornubia, a carrier heading west, and what the property approach will hold after rain — the date is confirmed when you place the order
Likely truck
Tilt-tray on firm, straight access; crane where reach solves the placement. A flat-top, with machinery at your end, only by prior arrangement

What a container buyer here should know.

Getting a container to Tara

What you can buy here
10ft, 20ft and 40ft — general purpose, high cube, side opening, refrigerated and dangerous goods — in new single-trip, cargo-worthy used or as-is, to buy. Delivered to Tara and the district around it. Hire is by enquiry only — see the questions below.
How you get a delivered price
Send the form below or ring 1300 467 776. The container and the cartage to your address come back as one figure from a person — nothing on this page calculates it.
What we need from you
The delivery suburb or postcode, what is going in it, roughly when, and ideally three photos of the entry. We would sooner spend a few extra minutes on the spec than sell you the wrong box.
What changes availability and delivery
Which yard is holding the size and grade you want, the truck your site can take — the site and the carrier decide that, not the container — and what is already travelling that way. Timing on this page is indicative; the actual date comes with the quote.

Cornubia is the only yard you can walk into — ring first. Everywhere else, ask for photographs of the actual unit before delivery, or inspection by arrangement at a partner depot.

Grade moves the price more than size does, and it is what decides whether a unit is sold watertight — the full rundown is on the grades page.

What people use containers for here

Possible container uses around Tara include fencing gear, tools and spare parts on grazing blocks around Tara, a lockable store on holdings at Weranga and Kumbarilla where the shed is small or still unbuilt, pump and water fittings kept together instead of in three sheds, machinery parts and workshop overflow, and building materials held dry while work on the place proceeds at the pace the property allows.

Truck, ground and clearance

The highway leg toward Tara is the part a map understands. The delivery is decided after the formed road loosens its grip, on the private track that continues to the shed. Weranga and Kumbarilla are the same kind of job as town approaches that leave the bitumen: a grid at the boundary, a gate that looked wide from the ute, a section that softens after rain, and a turnaround that may or may not exist once a rigid truck is the vehicle in question. A tilt-tray needs to sit square on firm ground. Where that is available in a straight run, it is the ordinary truck. Where the container has to travel past a soft patch or finish somewhere the truck should not stand, a crane from a firm setup position is the alternative, and it still needs ground that will take outriggers. On a run this long there is a third option, and it is not a surprise saved for the gate. A flat-top, with your own machine doing the unload, happens only when the carrier has agreed the machine, the lifting method and the capacity before the truck leaves Cornubia. Photographs that help are specific: the grid or the entrance, the gate at its narrowest, the soft or doubtful section, and the place you want the container, plus a note on where a truck could turn. If the grid has a rating, send it. If it does not, say so. Unknown is a plan we can make. Unknown discovered on the day is a truck sitting at your boundary with the container still on it.

Tara

After the bitumen, the driveway continues

Tara is the town this page is built around, and Weranga and Kumbarilla are the rural approaches that belong with it. What they share is the moment the public road stops being the problem. A sealed approach can be uneventful for hours and the delivery can still fail on the last kilometre: a narrow grid, a culvert, a gate, or ground that looked fine in the dry and is not fine now. That last kilometre is what we need described, in photos, before a carrier is pointed west.

Because the truck has already come a long way by the time it reaches you, changing the plan at the boundary is the expensive version of a conversation that should have happened at the quote. Tell us the distance from the public road to the shed, what the surface is, and whether there is a spot near the entrance that stays firm. Landing there, and shifting the container later with a machine you trust on your own ground, is a normal way to finish a remote drop. It should be chosen on purpose.

On the ground

A grid nobody can rate

Private grids on these approaches were often built for the vehicle that lived there at the time, and the paperwork left with the person who welded them. A loaded rigid truck and container put a different load through the rails. If yours is engineered and rated, that number is the most useful thing you can send. If the honest answer is that nobody knows, send that instead, before the truck is loaded. The alternatives are a side gate that avoids the grid, a landing on the near side of it, or a crane that does not have to cross it at all.

The same rule covers a culvert or a fill crossing you do not trust. We will not ask a driver to test it. Gate width is the easier measurement and it still gets done wrong: measure the opening a vehicle must pass, not the gap that looks wide in a photograph taken square-on. A post that has already been clipped is telling you something. Mention it.

A grid nobody can rate

Worth knowing

Agree the unload before dispatch

On a long westbound run the unload method is part of the booking, not a detail for the driver to improvise. A tilt-tray unload needs firm, straight ground and room to move forward as the container comes off. A crane unload needs a setup position within reach of the final spot, with ground that will hold the outriggers. Your own machine unloading from a flat-top is available only when that machine, the method and the capacity have been agreed before the truck leaves. A telehandler that might be back from another paddock by then is not an agreement.

The unit itself is whatever is confirmed at Cornubia for your size and grade. If seeing it matters, Cornubia at 51-55 Bromley Street is the walk-in yard, Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm, and you should ring 1300 467 776 first. If that trip is unrealistic, photographs of the actual unit are sent on request before delivery. The date is confirmed when you order, once the access plan is part of the order and not a hope attached to it.

What delivery to Tara costs

Distance sets part of the delivery cost and the truck your site needs sets the rest. We work both out when we quote the unit.

Close by on the delivery map

We also deliver to Dalby, Chinchilla, Weranga, Kumbarilla and the surrounding district. If your town is not on the list, ring — it almost certainly still works.

Common questions

Buying a container in Tara

Will the container come from a yard in Dalby?

Not assumed. Our depot list has Cornubia and a set of regional depots, and Dalby is not one of them, nor is Tara. The yard actually holding your unit is confirmed before the truck is booked, and for these localities that is normally Cornubia. If a different listed depot has the size and grade, you will be told which one. You will not be told there is a Dalby yard when the list does not show one.

Can I unload it with my own machine?

Only when the carrier agrees the machine, the lifting method and the capacity before the truck leaves. A flat-top is arranged on that basis. It is not the default, and it is not something to decide when the driver is already at Weranga or Kumbarilla. If the agreement is not in place, the delivery is planned as a tilt-tray or a crane onto ground the truck can use.

Can a truck cross our private grid?

Send the rating if you know it. If nobody knows, say that, and the plan can be a side entrance, a landing before the grid, or a lift that does not cross it. A grid built for a ute is not evidence it will take a loaded rigid truck. The same applies to a culvert you cannot vouch for. Photos of the entrance belong with that answer.

Can I hire one this far out?

Ask, and include the address and how long you need it. Hire collection from Tara, Weranga or Kumbarilla is not something this page treats as already arranged. Delivery and a later collection both need an approach a truck can use, and that has to be confirmed with the booking. If collection access is doubtful, buying is the cleaner conversation. Either way there is no published fee on this page. The figure comes back with the quote.
