Order early, and treat a highway closure as part of the plan

About sixteen hundred kilometres north of the Fremantle partner depot, a date is whenever a truck next comes this way with deck room. From November through April the Turner, Yule and De Grey can cut the highway, and the port clears ahead of a cyclone. Be early and specific. Do not pretend the road is always open.

Northbound deck room

Hedland freight is drawn from the Fremantle partner depot, then the Great Northern and the North West Coastal highways. A look is arranged, and photos are how you see the unit. What nobody can promise on a Tuesday is the day a northbound deck has space. Send the length and the site rules while there is still time.

Port and inland codes

South Hedland 6722 is the planned town, easier than the old port streets. Karratha 6714 and Roebourne 6718 are coast destinations, not local suburbs. Newman 6753 sits inland on the ore line. Marble Bar 6760 is a remote run. A Wedgefield yard and a station track are different promises.

Crossings and soft flats

The West End is pinched by the harbour, the rail and the stockpiles, so a truck works around restricted routes. South Hedland was planned with room to square a rigid to a block. Wedgefield is simplest, with hardstand and gear often on site. A 10ft or 20ft at a town address can come off a tilt-tray. Most of this work is a 40ft, so a side loader or crane truck is the default. Compacted pindan carries a box where the pad was built. Tidal flats toward Boodarie are soft and saline. In the wet, yesterday's hardstand can bog a truck, and creek clay holds water after the sky clears. When the Turner or the De Grey is up, trucks wait until the road reopens.

Lay-down before day one

Port, rail and Boodarie contractors need consumables where the work is. Shutdown crews want spares on site before day one, not still south of Carnarvon. Wedgefield stores, crib rooms and short site offices are ordinary. Stations toward Marble Bar and Nullagine need a lock-up that can sit a season. Transfers into South Hedland often need household storage before a house is ready.

Notes on highway closures and on plant-gate paperwork.

What happens if the De Grey is over the highway?

The truck waits until the water drops and the road is reopened, sometimes for days. That pause is part of the timing, not a failed booking.

Does a cyclone warning stop the job if the road is open?

Craning stops, and the port will be clearing. Book with the season in mind, and with a site contact who knows when the gate will take a truck.

Are the Boodarie flats the same as Wedgefield hardstand?

No. Wedgefield is built for trucks. The tidal flats are soft and salty and will take a loaded axle. Say which side the pin is on.

Why do site inductions belong in the first message?

The truck is committed to a long northbound run. A pass, or a ban on using the site crane, changes what is sent. Sort it before the driver is en route.

Room for more.Less mucking around.
