Beaudesert, QLD
Rathdowney can be dry while the causeway is not
Town unloads without much drama. The work starts once you leave the highway for Kooralbyn, Rathdowney, Christmas Creek and Laravale, beneath Mount Barney. A crossing that carried only dust on Monday can be running by Wednesday. Storms back in the hills push water across it while the homestead itself stays dry.
Lindesay, then the turn
Beaudesert orders run out the Mount Lindesay highway. Photos of the Beaudesert unit go out before dispatch, and delivery is quoted to the address. The unit is settled before the truck is booked. The crossing on the last public stretch is what moves the day.
Scenic Rim codes
Gleneagle and Kooralbyn share 4285 with Beaudesert, one on the highway and one off it toward the crossings. Rathdowney is 4287, further south. Canungra is 4275, up toward the range. Boonah is 4310, over in the Fassifern, and it is a different valley from a town drop.
Causeways and climbs
Logan and Albert tributaries meet these roads on low concrete, not on bridges. They can rise within a couple of hours of rain back in the hills, often while the house is dry, and they fall slowly. Wait them out. Unsealed sections toward Innisplain, Palen Creek and the back of Kooralbyn are good when dry and slick soon after a storm, worse on a fresh grade that has not knitted.
Creek flats are lovely when dry and slippery when wet. Higher country is basalt and rock shelf, solid and rarely level, so use pads. Then the usual farm stops: a tight opening, an unrated grid, cattle in the lane, a low wire to the pump, and room to square the truck. Where a shorter length can sit square, it leaves on a tilt-tray. If the approach or the yard will not allow that, send a crane.
Fodder and venues
Baled hay has to stay dry through a wet summer. Wire, posts and strainers belong in one store, not four. Drenches and vet supplies stay out of the weather, and chemical drums stay away from the house. Sheds that filled years ago take tools and machinery parts. Farm-stay and wedding places through the Scenic Rim keep linen and furniture locked between events.
Reading on range rain, gravel climbs and turning at the shed.
The house is dry but the causeway is under water. Come?
No. Range rain lifts those Logan and Albert crossings while your yard stays dry. Leave it until the concrete is showing. Testing one with a load is how trucks get stranded.
A grader was over the Palen Creek track yesterday. Better or worse?
Often worse until traffic knits it. Freshly graded gravel with a side slope loses grip under a load much sooner than an empty ute suggests.
Rock shelf at the shed, almost no soil. Can it land?
Yes, on pads, because that ground is solid and rarely level. A corner casting on a ledge is what twists the doors later.
Cattle on the road into Kooralbyn. Hold them?
Yes, out of the laneway before the truck is due. The same note should mention any unrated grid and the turn at the far end.

Room for more.Less mucking around.
