July ground and February ground are not the same delivery

From the build-up through April, rural tracks stop behaving like the hard July ground they were. Black soil goes heavy, low crossings go under, and a simple dry-season job becomes a question of waiting. Stock for that decision is already at the Darwin partner depot.

Darwin releases its own

Darwin is the partner depot, so local orders are released here rather than hauled up one by one. A visit is arranged. East Arm is the wharf units are topped up from. Pictures of the doors, floor and roof are how most people choose.

Codes out of town

Palmerston 0830 and Humpty Doo 0836 can share a morning with town, and each has its own page. Howard Springs 0835 is the rural edge. Batchelor 0845 is a longer run south. Katherine 0850 is a highway job, not a suburb drop. Name the locality. Soft clay at one address is not hardstand at another.

Wet clay, dry laterite

November to April is the first question. Humpty Doo, Howard Springs, Girraween, Lambells Lagoon, Acacia Hills and Berry Springs sit on cracking clay that softens within hours of a fall. A graded drive will not hold a loaded rigid, and a truck that cannot reverse out becomes everyone's afternoon. Laterite holds better, so say which surface you have. In the dry those blocks are straightforward. Winnellie, Berrimah and Yarrawonga are wide and built for heavy vehicles. The East Arm industrial land is the same kind of job. Zuccoli, Johnston and Bellamack have kerbside pits and thin turf on fresh fill. Older northern streets carry low mango, poinciana and African mahogany. A barge toward the Tiwi Islands, Groote Eylandt, Gove or the Roper adds a sailing day and a weight limit.

Camps, fruit and barges

Camp gear is staged at Winnellie, Berrimah and Yarrawonga before it goes further. Orchards at Acacia Hills, Berry Springs and Lambells Lagoon need carton and chemical storage for the mango and melon season. Zuccoli and Johnston builds want a site store. Blocks that have already lost a shed to termites want steel. Boats and fishing kit come out of the sun between harbour trips.

Notes on wet-season ground and on freight that still has a barge leg.

Should a rural drop wait until the clay dries?

If the drive is black soil and rain is on it, yes. Laterite with a firm line can often proceed. Tell us the surface and the booking moves.

Does a Tiwi or Groote barge change the date?

It does. Size, weight and the sailing day sit in the quote. Gove and Roper freight are handled the same way, not after the truck has finished.

Will estate pits at Zuccoli take a loaded axle?

They crack if a rear axle wanders onto them. A photo of the crossover, and of cars both sides, shows whether a tilt-tray fits.

Can limbs over a northern street block the tray?

Mango and African mahogany often hang into the lift. A tilt-tray raises the box as it comes off, higher than a ute roof.

Room for more.Less mucking around.
