Rock under the corners, then the heat inside

Mount Isa, QLD

Rock under the corners, then the heat inside

Stock is held for Mount Isa, and delivery is quoted to the address. Photos of the unit go out before the truck is booked. The ground is rock rather than soil, rarely level, and a closed box in summer runs hot enough to matter.

Confirmed, then the landing

Photos of the Mount Isa unit go out before dispatch, and delivery is quoted to the address. Say whether the landing is a street, an industrial frontage, or a station track. The size and grade are confirmed before the truck is booked.

Codes on two highways

Cloncurry, on the way in, is 4824. Julia Creek is 4823, further east along the Flinders. Camooweal is 4828, west on the Barkly. Dajarra is 4825, the same code as town, to the south. Boulia is 4829. A street drop here and a station road toward Camooweal are different jobs.

Steps, rock and outriggers

Rock is why an Isa drop is unlike black soil. Blocks step. Drives are short and steep. The pad behind a house can sit a metre or two above the road. Nothing sinks. A spot that holds the box often will not take a raised bed.

Steep blocks usually need a crane from the street. Measure from where the truck stands to the landing, the height between, services on the frontage, and outrigger room. Yards in the industrial area are simpler. West to Camooweal, or south to Dajarra and Boulia, the bitumen carries road trains, then station tracks turn rough, with unrated grids and floodways that shift after rain. Bulldust looks like road. Creeks rise fast and nothing crosses while they are up. A firm approach takes a tilt-tray for 10ft and 20ft. Rock, terraces and a 40ft want a crane.

Filters, bores and gear

Mine workshops seal filters, hose and fittings against the red dust, spares beside them. Fabrication shops want a lock-up. Stations out by Camooweal, Dajarra and Cloncurry keep bore parts, poly and fencing. Schools and clubs in town store gear the same way. On rock, a shed means excavation. The box does not.

Notes on heat, rock, and gear the dust ruins.

Why is a crane the usual answer on a steep block?

The landing sits above the street and the drive is too short for a raised bed. Outriggers still need a firm foot.

Does the heat change what should go inside?

A shut steel box on this rock runs hotter than shade. Fuels and plastics need a thought. Dust is why the filters are in there.

What do you need for a station track off the Barkly?

How far off the seal, what you drive on, and the grid. A creek in the wet can shut the track before lunch.

Can the unit be seen before it is booked?

Photos show the doors and the floor before the truck is booked. Delivery is quoted to the address with them.

Room for more.Less mucking around.
